...what you get is just the image itself, in its purest form...
Since around 2000 when Hahnemühle released their now legendary Photo Rag paper to the market, matte smooth fine art inkjet papers have become the most popular type of fine art inkjet paper in the world (and even now Photo Rag is still the most popular version of this type of paper by far!).
Smooth matte papers offer unmatched expression for both photographic and illustrative works. There's no texture to impair detail, no specular highlights or optical flare to worry about like you get with gloss and semi-gloss papers - what you get is just the image itself, in its purest form.
This is why these papers have become so beloved over the last 15 years, and now if you visit for example the AIPP awards, you will see perhaps 80% or more of images printed on these materials.
Ilford Smooth Cotton Rag - new player on the market and a great new choice. A little more organic feeling than the other two Rag papers.
Hahnemühle Bamboo - this is a highly ecologically friendly smooth matte paper with a lovely warm tone and is proving very popular. It's quite beautiful and a firm favourite here, particularly for portraiture and art reproductions of works originally made on creamier stocks.
