Epson Printers and Thicker Papers

16th September 2015 Printing

Thicker media, such as Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308, sometimes have difficulty loading through Epson printers. Here are a few tips to help solve this issue.

  • Carefully load the paper flush against the right paper guide.
  • Load the paper in the rear fine art paper slot if you're machine has one (e.g. the 3800/3880/P800).
  • When the printer starts to print and pulls the paper in, push paper gently from the top using your palm, and maintain light pressure as the printer grabs the paper. The paper will drop down a small amount after a few seconds. Maintain this light pressure as it moves down a few more centimetres a second time and once again until the paper is finally loaded.
  • Clean the rollers on your printer. Over time the rollers get clogged with a very fine filler from papers and have issues grabbing the paper. The rollers should be cleaned regularly, and also be replaced periodically depending on the amount of printing done.
