Double Sided Printing Tips

16th September 2015 Printing

Making double sided inkjet prints can be quite difficult. Here are some tips to make the process a little smoother.

  • Use a smaller inkjet printer like the Epson SureColor P800 or smaller to do this successfully - the suction systems on the large format roll printers are too strong and cause significant abrasion to the back side of papers.
  • Allow plenty of time for the whole print run - it's best to leave your prints for at least 24 hours and ideally some days before printing the second side.
  • After printing the first side, coat that side in Hahnemuhle Protective Spray - this provides good protection against marks when printing the reverse side.
  • Print the lightest image side first - and light scratch marks from rollers will be much more visible in dark prints.
  • Practise your print process with cheap plain paper first and keep good notes on paper loading orientation as it's easy to get confused with this!
